O merchant! You have taken birth in this world during the first phase of life. Due to your childish and immature mind, you failed to serve God.

Because of your ignorance, you became trapped in the illusion of Maya instead of remembering the Divine. What is the use of regretting later if you did not prepare yourself earlier? Even after reaching youth, you remained foolish and unstable.

Ravidass says: O trader, human birth has been given so that you may remember the Name of God.

In the second phase of life, you continued walking in the shadow of ignorance. You still did not meditate on God or even utter His Name once.

Instead, you became absorbed in pride, attachment, and sinful actions. You failed to distinguish between what was truly yours and what was temporary. You kept performing wrong deeds.

When the Master asks for your account, how will you answer?

Ravidass says: O merchant, you continue moving deeper into ignorance.

In the third phase of life, laziness and weakness overtook your body. Your strength and speech began to fade, yet even then you did not seek God.

After wasting the earlier years of life, there was still an opportunity to perform good deeds and remember the Divine. But when the body started trembling and weakening, only then did repentance begin.

Ravidass again warns the merchant to awaken spiritually.

In the fourth and final stage of life, the body begins to shake completely. The Master now demands the account of your deeds.

You must leave this old body behind. The messengers of death arrive and prepare the soul for departure. Your time in this world is completed.

The journey ahead must be travelled alone. No loved one or companion can go with you.

Ravidass says: O merchant, your body now trembles — this is the time to remember God.
